Free Education Resources for Primary and Secondary Schools

Pre-school Resource

Paws to Learn Pre- school - focuses on behaving safely and kindly around dogs and delivers aspects of the Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

Key Stage 1 Resource

Primary Science CD-ROM - the CD-ROM uses what children learn to get them thinking about themselves, their own needs and bodies and supports KS1 Science, Numeracy, PSHE and Citizenship. (Available free from Cats Protection).

Key Stage 1&2 Resources

Assembly – 5 story-based assemblies to encourage children to reflect on everyday issues e.g. bullying and saying sorry. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

Primary Citizenship – exploring rights and responsibilities, issues of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

Literacy and Numeracy - offers a range of activities from data-handling and multi-step problems to writing compositions and supports the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

Literacy, Numeracy, PSHE and Citizenship Primary Cats in the Classroom – supporting Literacy and Numeracy, Citizenship and PSHE, and equivalent activities in the 5-14 Scottish Curriculum, the resource provides poems, stories and numerical data with a cat theme. (Available free from Cats Protection).

Design and Technology (download from www.learnwithdogs.co.uk) - offers a range of structured activities that explore technical systems and controls to make moving pictures, puppets and toys. The activities support units 1A, 2B, 3C, 5C & 6D of the QCA Schemes of Work. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

Key Stage 3 Resources

English - uses Dogs Trust material to enable students to explore advertising within the context of a general study of media texts. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

History (Dogs in War) - uses primary source material from World Wars I & II, to help students develop their skills of historical enquiry. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

Citizenship - tapping into the love young people have for animals to use this as a launch pad for learning and personal development. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

English, PSHE, Citizenship Secondary Cats in the Classroom - uses the theme of animal rights, responsibility and media to explore language to inform and persuade. Supports English, PSHE and Citizenship and within the 5-14 Scottish Curriculum. (Available free from Cats Protection).

Key Stage 4 Resources

Business Studies – using real life Dogs Trust work; organisational structure, marketing strategies, advertising, and charitable status, are all explored. (Available free from Dogs Trust).

14-16 Business Challenge (Business Studies) CD-ROM - using financial and demographic data, pupils are required to prepare a marketing plan that will deliver fundraising support for a new Centre. Supports Business Studies, Maths and English at GCSE level and Standard Grade. (Available free from Cats Protection).

PE Action Pack CD-ROM - supports sport and fitness training in schools. Working with leading bodies in sport and the Royal Navy & Royal Marine's own fitness experts, the resource provides detailed training notes for all fourteen curriculum sports, from badminton to swimming. Sport and PE 'Don’t think you can – Know you can!' CD-ROM - is designed to support Sport and PE at GCSE and Standard Grade, to help raise fitness levels amongst 11-16 year olds, as well as raising awareness of the diversity of careers within the RN & RM. The CD-ROM teaches training principles to enable pupils to design an exercise programme that covers strength, stamina, suppleness and speed. (Available free from the Royal Navy). Online Resources

www.learnwithdogs.co.uk - the NGfL approved Dogs Trust website offers educational games for KS1&2 pupils (supporting a range of subjects from Literacy and Numeracy to Music, Science and ICT), and downloadable resources for KS1, 2, 3, and 4.

www.outofyourhands.com - designed to support KS3 Citizenship, the website focuses on understanding mobile phone crime; why it happens, and what it's like to lose your phone - or buy a stolen one, how you can avoid becoming a victim, and how to block your phone.
