Centrica Energy

Creation of Interactive Education Spaces for visitors aged 7-14

Aim

To encourage and maintain school visits to Langage power station, our aim was to create a highly engaging journey throughout the tour by developing interactive activities and support materials to consolidate learning and to extend the user experience beyond the visit.

Background:

The UK’s most recent power station was opened in March 2011 by Minister of State Charles Hendry. This Plymouth based Centrica Energy station has a capacity to generate 895MW and is already supplying power to around one million homes. The central building provides a specific section to accommodate school visits so that pupils can learn about the process of electricity generation. The experience involves a tour of the working power station, followed by a session of interactive activities in the innovative ‘Discovery Centre’.

What did we do?

Our role was two-fold:

  • We provided educational consultancy in planning the space, including layout and design, ensuring its  appropriateness for students
  • And…created fun activities both within the centre, including physical and computer based games, as well as post-visit materials for use back at school to provide legacy.
