WorldSkills

Raising awareness of vocational qualifications

Background

WorldSkills is the world’s largest, international skills competition where young people from across the globe compete to become the best in their chosen skill. 1,000 competitors from 50 countries/regions will compete in 45 skill areas over four exciting days.

Aim

Create resources which help to support and promote the existence of the event by raising awareness and leveraging uptake of vocational qualifications.

What did we do?

We developed PSHE materials, which target schools and students aged between 11- 16 years in the UK.  In order to underpin this activity within the WorldSkills event and to ensure  maximum uptake, we created materials that can be used before, during and after a visit. The materials focus on WorldSkills core messaging around the personal and functional skills needed for a successful career.

Each series of activities provide:

  • A lesson plan (with outline timings)
  • Learning outcomes
  • Assessment ideas
  • Differentiation and extension suggestions
  • Student consolidation and reflection materials.

Each lesson has value and relevance to students and to the school’s role in preparing them for further education or employment, which is evidenced throughout.
The materials are available to download here: http://www.worldskillslondon2011.com/info/resources

It is too early in the launch of the materials to share engagement levels with the materials – we’ll keep you updated!
